The Party Moves On | Khairy Jamaluddin on UMNO Expulsion
“The party moves on. It’s always moved on. I’m not the first expulsions within this party. There have been others who have been expelled. Dr. Mahathir, Datuk Seri Anwar, Tan Sri Muhiyidin and I’m not saying that I’m as important as these people, but the party moved on no matter who is expelled.” Khairy Jamaluddin addresses his UMNO expulsion.
Khairy Jamaluddin was a 3-term MP for Rembau in Negeri Sembilan until being relocated to the metropolitan constituency of Sungai Buloh in Selangor for the November 19th elections. In the end, he was defeated in a seven-cornered battle. After his UMNO expulsion, Khairy Jamaluddin is considering a political comeback in Selangor for the forthcoming state election.
Wrong Tactic Deployed? | Khairy Jamaluddin on UMNO Expulsion
When asked if he miscalculate his chances or used the wrong strategy at the wrong time, Khairy Jamaluddin said he doesn’t think the wrong tactic was deployed.
In the same vein, he also expressed his thought on his relationship with UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, “I have nothing against Zahid personally. I still consider him a friend. He probably doesn’t consider me a friend anymore, but I have nothing against him personally. I just wanted an open contest because the fact of the matter is that he was precise over the most disastrous electoral outing for the party.”
He continued, “If Pak Lah was asked to step down as the president after we lost our 2/3 majority in Parliament. If Najib was asked to step down after the 2018 elections, the very least you (Zahid) could have done, if you do not want to step down was at least, open up the party election for an open contest and let the members decide.”
Answering host Shazana Mokhtar on whether he had spoken to Zahid Hamidi after his UMNO expulsion, “The last time was when he jabbed me in the stomach and said that he was ready to fight… and then the next day… he wasn’t ready to fight. Yeah, that was it. ”
Min believes that his story can be a teaching moment for us. Min wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors. No matter how long you’ve been on that bridge, it’s your turn to cross, and you’ll do so with ease and without ferocity. Keep moving, KJ!
